Nels Williams

Professional sports journalist and broadcast announcer

Nels Williams is a play-by-play broadcaster and sideline reporter based in Arlington, VA. His work includes broadcasting high school, minor league, and collegiate games for a wide array of sports, such as football, basketball, baseball, softball, hockey, lacrosse, and soccer.

Nels began his sports broadcasting career at Virginia Tech, where he graduated with a degree in Sports Media & Analytics and a minor in Political Science. During his time in Blacksburg, he worked heavily with the student radio praogram 3304 Sports, ACC Network, and ESPN Blacksburg. 

​

He became one of the youngest radio hosts out of college for an ESPN affiliate station by returning as the host of "The Drive," at ESPN Blacksburg, which he used to co-host and produce every weekday as a student.

 

On top of hosting "The Drive," which aired every weekday from 4-6 p.m., he was heavily involved with the station's social media, marketing, and sales.

 

His training in the Sports Media program, combined with his extensive experiences, equips him with a broad range of skills, including sideline reporting, co-hosting and producing a weekly radio show, social media management, game analysis writing, in-studio hosting, live-show producing, on-site reporting, and play-by-play announcing. Nels is ready to add to your team and make your next broadcast bigger and better.
